Halfway between the Alpine and Mediterranean environment of Lake Garda, Tenno stands on the crossroads of valleys which was of primary importance from prehistoric to medieval times. Its position, halfway up the mountain above Riva, favors a countryside characterized by contrasts, as described by Virgilio in a passage of the Eneide. Tenno Castle, on the rocky crag of the ancient town of Frapporta, characterizes the landscape from a strategic yet panoramic position, virtually a terrace over the blue of the lake. Both the town, which has conserved its medieval character, and the small Romanesque church of St Lawrence, are charming. Another characteristic town is Canale, characterized by narrow houses which are connected to each other by archways. In the most northerly part of Tenno the small Lake Tenno, with its charming tree lined island, covers the remains of a petrified forest.
The Tenno Castle (12th century) stands on a rock as if in a strategic position observing as far as the horizon, to protect and defend its precious environmental and historical-cultural treasure.
