Scheffau am Wilden Kaiser

There is a real village atmosphere in Scheffau with its country charm and one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in Tyrol, the Lake Hintersteiner See. Situated at an altitude of 882m, directly in the Wilder Kaiser nature reserve, the Hintersteiner See is a good starting point for many walks and mountain climbs. After your hike, revitalise body and soul with a refreshing dip in its crystal clear water!

There is lot's for children to do – our varied entertainment program or a trip to the adventure play ground at 1650m in the KaiserWelt.

Scheffau is situated directly at the foot of the Wilder Kaiser. At an altitude of 754m, it is the smallest of the villages around the Kaiser with a population of 1.500 .

First documented as „Skefenouwen“ in 1158, the name was then altered to „Schiefe Au“ , which is the derivation of the present day Scheffau.
