Kufstein

Surrounded by meadows, forests and lakes, and dominated by the mighty Kaisergebirge mountain range, lies ‘Kufstein’. The charm and appeal of this town lie in its many invigorating contrasts.

Centuries-old culture vies with breathtaking natural beauty. The town’s centrepiece and landmark is the fortress (a covered event venue hosting top events). The rooms of the upper castle barracks house the Fortress Museum. Exhibits from various eras document the culture and history of the town and district of Kufstein.

Enjoy the unique view over the historic town as you take the ‘Kaiser Maximilian’ panoramic lift – a glass-enclosed inclined lift that takes you directly up to the fortress. A different kind of treat awaits you every day at 12 noon, when the Heldenorgel (the world’s largest open-air organ, with 4,307 pipes and 46 stops) begins to play. The Auracher Löchl and Römerhofgasse are integral parts of Kufstein’s old town, which every visitor should explore.

The Tyrolean glassworks of Riedel Glas offers a special experience with its “Adventure of Perception – Sinnfonie” and glassblowing workshop. At “Madersperger” (Sewing Machine Museum), an audio-visual show provides an insight into the life and work of J. Madersperger (inventor of the sewing machine).

Hikers can find relaxation and a change of scenery in the natural surroundings of the Kaisergebirge Nature Reserve. Kufstein offers a wide range of sporting activities all year round: four lakes for swimming, tennis courts, indoor riding arenas, cycle paths, skittle alleys, fitness centres, a mini-golf course, an ice rink, toboggan runs, cross-country ski trails, ski slopes… the possibilities are endless.

Stroll through the medieval town centre; Kufstein’s specialist shops invite you to enjoy a spot of shopping, followed by a culinary treat. In the evening, bars and pubs await to sweep you away into Kufstein’s nightlife.
