Welcome!
Those who love to unwind and enjoy a peaceful atmosphere know how to discover idyllic, picturesque, and dreamy spots, immerse themselves in the appreciation of art, and treat their palates to culinary delights in a wild and romantic setting. Nötsch im Gailtal offers magical impressions that enchant visitors in every season and help them forget the stresses of everyday life. Our market town of Nötsch im Gailtal, located in southern Austria near the Italian border, shines as a special gem of the “Naturarena Kärnten” and is part of the Carinthian “Dobratsch Nature Park.” The light of Nötsch, which exudes a unique fascination, was one of the decisive factors in the formation of an Impressionist art center, the “Nötscher Kreis,” in the 1930s. Internationally renowned artists Sebastian Isepp, Anton Mahringer, Franz Wiegele, and Anton Kolig brought out in their paintings the unique poetry and colors of the landscape, as well as the individuality of the local people. The “Friends of the Nötsch Circle” museum, located in the Wiegele Bakery and Mill and featuring annually changing themes, is celebrated as an artistic delight that transcends borders and serves as the creative brushstroke that graces our market town.
Nötsch im Gailtal is also well-known among glider pilots, as our town is home to a glider airfield. The southern slopes of the Dobratsch offer ideal thermal conditions for experiencing the boundless freedom of vacation. The Familiensporthotel Marko offers wellness amenities, including a fitness center and an attached sauna.
Summer
Whether it’s the cycling trail, the mountain adventure pool, or a hobby painting class, there’s plenty of variety in our market town. On the 50 km of marked hiking trails, you can enjoy pure hiking fun, even with a guided tour. Trips to nearby swimming lakes offer a refreshing break. Horseback riding or fishing provide individual vacation fun. However, those who prefer something a bit more exciting can try rafting. The landscape and customs are authentically traditional. The best example of this is our church festivals, featuring traditional costumes and the so-called “Kufenstechen,” where the village’s unmarried young men demonstrate their skill and strength on horseback. Our offerings also include farm stays and alpine camping.
