Writers such as Nietzsche, artists like Beuys, and musicians such as David Bowie drew their inspiration from the impressive wide open spaces and the magical light here, and they played a considerable role in establishing Sils as THE cultural centre of the Engadin. These days, guests from all over the world and locals describe Sils as a place abounding in life force and natural earth energy. Nestling idyllically between Lake Sils and Lake Silvaplana, the village lies at the gateway to the romantic Fex Valley, and is the perfect departure point for walks in this light-flooded valley landscape. Those for whom the sky’s the limit will find an abundance of varied routes for hiking and mountain-biking tours on Sil’s very own mountain, the Furtschellas. Furthermore, a trip on Lake Sils on board Europe's highest-altitude scheduled boats allows visitors to enjoy the magnificent alpine backdrop from a particularly spectacular perspective.
