A warm Welcome to one of Austria’s most vibrant and beautiful small towns! Nestled between the Hohe Tauern National Park and the Nockberge Biosphere Reserve, the charming town of Gmünd lies at the confluence of the Lieser and Malta rivers. That’s where the name “Gmünd” comes from (from the German word “münden”, meaning to flow into). Gmünd was granted town rights in 1346, making it one of the oldest towns in Austria.

A VIBRANT CULTURAL SCENE

Local cultural associations host a wide range of exhibitions, concerts, cabarets, castle theater performances, cinema evenings, and top-tier literary events. Every year, hundreds of visitors flock to Gmünd’s unique Fasching Tuesday celebration (“Gmündner Gschnas”) and one of Austria’s most beautiful arts and crafts markets, held in the historic old town during the first weekend of August.
