Circular hiking route - TOP 1 - Werra Source - Masserberg - Thuringian Forest

Circular hiking route Werra Source starts at the hiking car park Rennsteighaus Masserberg. You follow the Rennsteig past Hotel Oberland, after about 100 meters turn left at the information board onto Planieweg by the sports stadium. From there, head towards Dreiherrenstein at the Heidehütte. This stone marked the border between the duchy of Saxe-Meiningen, the principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt, and the principality of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen.
There you leave the path, briefly cross the Rennsteig and walk on a beautiful narrow path over the Faule Brücke to the Werra Source. At the "Werraquell-Hütte" you can take a small rest.
The path leads behind the hut through the forest back to Planieweg. You turn right and follow this path to Turmbaude with magnificent 360-degree views over the Thuringian Forest. Behind the lodge there is a small playground for children. From now on, the path leads downhill on a small narrow path through the forest. Past the Hirschfalle, an artistic installation by the sports field. From there, it goes back to Masserberg via Planieweg.
