Over 10 churches of the unified municipality Hanseatic city of Gardelegen connect this round tour of the Altmark Reformation Bike Route. The approximately 35-kilometer path leads cyclists away from major roads from one church to the next. Each station is marked by a stele with one of Martin Luther's 95 theses and a rose as a symbol of the Reformation. The circular route is being expanded step by step, aiming for 95 stations, one for each thesis.
Numerous churches with their own charm are featured on this route, particularly well known are among others:
Village church Ipse: This is where the Reformation Bike Route originates. In the small church, one of the smallest in the state, medieval wall and ceiling paintings can be admired...
St. Nicholas Church: Built around 1200, St. Nicholas was regarded as the main and citizens' church of the city and burial site of prominent families...
St. Mary's Church: The five-aisled "merchant's church," once a Romanesque basilica, is a testament to North German Brick Gothic....
