SV_23 Vignolo - Colle del Prione - Monte Galero

Monte Galero is located on the border between Piemonte and Liguria along the main watershed of the Alpine range which in this stretch divides the Tanaro Valley from the Neva and Pennavaira Valleys. Monte Galero has a wide rounded summit with two peaks which offer amazing views. This itinerary is a long climb from the characteristic settlement of Vignolo in the middle Pennavaira Valley as far as the ridge where the “Alta Via dei Monti Liguri” (High Way of Ligurian Mountains, AVML) passes, leading to the top of Monte Galero. In the upper part of the climb you find the picturesque “Giganti di Pietra” (stone giants): strangely shaped pinnacles and peaks created by the erosion of particular rocks called “Brecce di Monte Galero”.
