Castles testify to the rich history of Volders

Discover Volders on the historical circular hiking trail

554m above sea level; population 4,268

Culture and nature in a confined space – that's the best way to describe Volders. Situated right beside the motorway, the village's most prominent landmark is the St Charles Church (Karlskirche). But Friedberg and Aschach castles also bear witness to the village's historic past. There are even some prehistoric sites, notably the Himmelreich settlement, one of the Tyrol's most significant ancient relics. The excavations here give some insight into village life over 2,000 years ago. This and other historic "treasures" can be explored on foot via a 10km circular footpath. Genuine mountain climbers, ski tourers and tobogganers will find that Volders is the perfect winter base. One big attraction on the Volderberg is the family-friendly, fully groomed toboggan run, while the Volder valley is a haven for mountain climbers and mountain bikers.
Do not on any account miss out on a visit to Schloss Friedberg. During the summer months, guided tours organised through the tourist board give visitors the chance to view the impressive and lavishly renovated castle, which is once again inhabited.
